General Description

This campground is located one mile south of Ouray, off Highway 550,at an elevation of 8,400 feet. The area is dominated by spruce trees.

Facilities include water spigots, pit toilets, picnic grounds, picnic tables and fire grates. The campground has an amphitheater which is reservable.

Directions from Ouray: Travel 1 mile south on US Hwy. 550.

Normal Services Available: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend (NOTE: The campgrounds may be open before and after these dates, but services such as water and garbage collection may not be provided. Call the local Ranger District for more detailled information.) .

Wetherill (Kansas City, MO) Number of People Encountered: 11-25 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: Nice CG right above Ouray with a beautiful view of the valley. Very winding road around the campsites for good isolation from others. Not uncommon to see white tail deer roaming the grounds in early evening. Just note that if you have dogs you will be required to keep them on leashes so they don't chase the deer. Conditions: I tried to get a space on Labor day weekend but to no avail. so making a reservation is a good suggestion. Water Availability: Service at the CG were just excellent and a very friendly host. Number of People Encountered: 0-10 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: REALLY liked this campground... offered trees and privacy.
