General Description

Dorchester Campground is popular with off-road vehicle users. A lengthy network of motorized trails leads from the Castle Creek Valley to Taylor Reservoir. Enduro trail bike riders think this region is great. There's good fishing and mountain biking here too.

Directions from Almont: Drive north on Highway 135 from Almont to Taylor Canyon Road (Forest Road 742). Turn right on to Taylor Canyon road and travel 39.5 miles to Dorchester Campground. Taylor Canyon Road changes to improved dirt immediately after the turn off for Cottonwood Pass Road.

Not much privacy in this small campground, but it is still a favorite. River runs by, very quiet at night.Road in is washboarded, but that keeps out some folks - GOOD ! Historic Forest Service cabin at entrance. Good walks nearby. Conditions: Nice new restrooms when we were there in 2002. Sunny sites, cold at night in early Sept. (see altitude).
