General Description

The terrain surrounding Gothic Campground is as rugged as it is beautiful. The mountain biking, hiking, motorcycle riding and four-wheel driving can't be beat. This site lies in a stretch of the Gunnison National Forest that is sandwiched between the Maroon Bells-Snowmass and the Raggeds Wilderness Areas. The area seldom gets crowded so it's worth the extra effort and time it takes to reach the region.

Directions from Crested Butte: Travel north through Crested Butte on Highway 135 toward Mt. Crested Butte. North of the Ski Resort 135 changes from a paved road to improved dirt. (This road is passable by passenger car a few miles passed the town site of Gothic.) Follow Gothic Road (135) past Gothic Town site. Gothic Campground lies on this road approximately 2 miles north of Gothic.

Copper Creek - Copper Creek is swift and fast with small Brook trout. Access along creek by foot or horse only.

Copper Creek Tail #1983 - Copper Creek Trail, 1983, leads from the Judd Falls Trailhead near Gothic, north to East Maroon Pass. The entire length of this trail is located within the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness.

Emerald Lake - Emerald Lake is an alpine lake of twelve surface acres, that supports small rainbow trout. It is situated in a scenic valley with a picnic area on its northern shore.

Schofield Pass Road # 317 - The section of Schofield Pass north of Schofield Park is equally beautiful and treacherous. This road should only be attempted by experienced drivers in short wheel-based vehicles.
