Lodgepole Campground is a great place for anglers to enjoy the waters of the Taylor River. It is located in the Taylor Canyon, which supports a variety of outdoor activities. Campers can enjoy rafting with a number of outfitters from Gunnison. Rock climbing is also popular in the canyon. The Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area lies one mile south of the campsite. Access to this natural area can be gained at the Summerville or South Lottis Trailheads.
Directions from Almont: Drive north on Highway 135 from Almont to Taylor Canyon Road (Forest Road 742). Turn right on to Taylor Canyon road and travel 14.6 miles to Lodgepole Campground.

Difficulty: Easy Number of People Encountered: 11-25 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: Right across the road is a superb fishing run. Most people fish it from the road side, but if you go downstream a bit, wade across to the middle of the Taylor and wade upstram to the rocks, there's a great spot to nymph for 'guaranteed' fish.

South Lottis Trail - South Lottis Trail extends north and south, through the Fossil Ridge Wilderness, for ten and a half miles. It leads from the South Lottis Trailhead to the Gold Creek Trailhead.
Summerville Trail - This trail begins in Taylor Canyon, one mile below Lodgepole Campground. After entering the Fossil Ridge Wilderness, the trail climbs out of Summerville Creek connecting with the Fossil Ridge Trail, 431.
