South Lottis Trail leads south from the South Lottis Trailhead through the Fossil Ridge Wilderness to the Gold Creek Trailhead. From its southern terminus this trail takes a relatively direct route to Lamphier lakes, where fishing is reported to be fairly good from year to year. Beginning at the South Lottis Creek Trailhead the trail follows South Lottis Creek into the Fossil Ridge Wilderness. The trail parallels the creek for four and a quarter miles gaining 1,460 feet. This is a relatively easy trek to the beginning of Henry Lake Trail, 429. At this point South Lottis Creek Trail leads to the left following Brush Creek. It continues to climb steadily toward Gunsight Pass. (Horses are not recommended on this trail due to large boulders along the pass.) The length of this leg of the trail, from Henry Lake Trail to Gunsight Pass, is three miles and elevation gained is 1,467 feet. From Gunsight Pass, South Lottis Creek Trail descends into the Lamphier Creek drainage. Within a mile of the pass South Lottis Trail passes Lamphier Lake. From the lake the trail descends 1,420 feet in two miles to Gold Creek Trailhead.
