General Description

Brush Creek originates in the southeastern Elk Mountains and Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Several small mountain streams converge to form Brush Creek just west of Teocalli Ridge. East and West Brush Creeks feed Middle Brush Creek. Brush Creek enters the East River from behind Crested Butte Mountain, immediately east of the town of Mt. Crested Butte.

The Brush Creeks average four to seven feet in width. Brook and Cutthroat trout inhabit all these streams. The fishing is rated as good. Beautiful scenery surrounds the area.

Four wheel drive roads follow each creek drainage. New expansion of Maroon Bells - Snowmass Wilderness possibly will close West Brush Creek Road. Wilderness follows Middle Brush Creek Road to Pearl Pass.

Directions from Crested Butte: Drive five miles south of Crested Butte on Highway 135 to Forest Road 738, which is Brush Creek Road. Go east on 738 and travel approximately five miles to a fork in the road. Follow the right fork, which continues as road 738. This four-wheel drive road follows Brush Creek as it leaves the East River.

Farris Creek Road # 736 - Farris Creek Road is a short four-wheel drive road that provides access to a series of mountain biking and hiking trails between Brush and Cement Creeks.

Farris Creek Trail - Farris Creek Trail leads north and south for four miles to connect Brush Creek and Cement Creek.

Twin Lakes Trail - Twin Lakes Trail leaves upper Brush Creek Road and enters the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Twin Lakes lie at approximately 11,780 feet.
