This trail leads from the Judd Falls Trailhead to East Maroon Pass. Follow the Judd Falls Trail to the falls where you begin hiking on the Copper Creek Trail. The trail leads northeast following and crossing Copper Creek. The creek is cold and swift, especially in the early summer. It is a good idea to bring sandals or wading shoes to wear during the stream crossings. Approximately three miles from Judd Falls a road leaves the Copper Creek Trail to the left (west). This leads to the Silvanite Mine and provides a good day hike. Continue passed this road to reach Copper Lake. Following the Copper Creek Trail passed the mine road you'll reach a fork in the trail within a mile. The left fork leads to Copper Lake, which lies approximately a half mile beyond the split in the trail at an elevation of 11,321 feet. (The right fork leads to Copper Pass and becomes the Conundrum Trail at this point.) If you continue to follow the Copper Creek Trail beyond Copper Lake you will reach East Maroon Pass in one half mile. This pass lies above 11,800 feet. The trail continues on the northern side of East Maroon Pass as East Maroon Creek Trail.
Directions from Crested Butte: Travel six miles north of Crested Butte on Gothic Road to the Judd Falls Trailhead. Hike to Judd Falls and continue on the Copper Creek Trail from there.
Directions from Aspen: Hike south on East Maroon Creek Trail to the junction with Copper Creek Trail. (See White River National Forest, Aspen Ranger District).
