The first two miles of Illinois Road are usually passable by two wheel drive vehicles. There are several dead end roads branching from Illinois Road that may make following this road difficult. After leaving Taylor River Road, Illinois Road follows a creek for one mile, then goes over a ridge and cuts across three drainages. After following another creek for a mile, the road climbs rapidly to a small lake at the end of the road. There is a short access trail from the lake to the Timberline Trail.
Directions from Almont: Travel twenty six miles northeast on Taylor River Road, 742. Turn right on to Illinois Creek Road, 756.
