General Description

Hinkle Road leaves Ohio Creek Road climbing steadily for three miles to a junction overlooking Alkali Basin. The road to the right ends in one mile. Hinkle Road turns left at this junction and descends gradually one mile to a fence. (Turn right at the fence to stay on Hinkle Road.) The road next climbs gradually, leads north along Alkali Basin and passes south of Red Mountain Lake. It ends within a mile of Red Mountain Lake at 10,360 feet. This road has many washouts and is extremely rough on places. Vehicle restrictions may be in effect on parts of this road, please check the current travel information at the Ranger Office in Gunnison.

Directions from Gunnison: Travel north two and a half miles on Highway 135 to Ohio Creek Road. Turn left on to Ohio Creek Road and drive seven miles to Forest Road 829, Hinkle Road.
