General Description

Spring Creek originates on the southwestern flanks of American Flag Mountain in the Elk Mountain Range. It's waters flow southward to Spring Creek Reservoir and on to the Taylor River. Several National Forest campgrounds surround the confluence of Spring Creek and the Taylor River. There are many accessible miles of stream before the confluence with the Taylor. The fishing in Spring Creek is rated as good.

Directions from Almont: Drive seven miles north on Taylor Canyon Road, #742. Turn left on to Spring Creek Road, Forest Road 744, which leads along the creek to Spring Creek Reservoir.

Directions from Taylor Park: Follow Taylor River Road, Forest Road 742, north of Taylor Park. Continue traveling approximately two miles passed Dinner Station Campground to Forest Road 748. Turn left on to 748 and travel approximately 11 miles to Spring Creek Reservoir.

North Bank Campground - North Bank Campground appeals primarily to anglers, because it lies on the lower Taylor River. Other recreation opportunities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, scenic driving and four-wheel driving.

One Mile Campground - This site lies at the south end of Taylor Canyon and provides access to a variety of activities including rock climbing and kayaking.

Rosy Lane Campground - Rosy Lane Campground lies on the banks of the Taylor River. It is a good place for visitors interested in fly and cast fishing.

Spring Creek Campground - Spring Creek Campground offers the solitude of the Gunnison Country. (It's worth the drive.) Anglers will enjoy this site because of its close proximity to Spring Creek and Taylor River.

Taylor River Road - The Taylor River Road is a paved, narrow, winding road, that follows the Taylor River through Taylor Canyon. Traffic is usually very heavy in the summer months.
