General Description

Travel restrictions may be in effect in this area due to wilderness designation, please check a current Travel map. To access Tellurium Road travel 32 miles from Almont on the Taylor River Road. Two and one third miles past the second pothole lake, Tellurium Road leaves Taylor River Road (at 9,866 feet) heading north.

The road follows a creek for one mile until you reach a road junction. The right road will dead end in about one and a half miles. Taking the left road, you cross a ridge and then follow the Tellurium Creek until you reach Ptarmigan Lake. The road goes around a ridge and climbs via switchbacks to the top of the ridge. The upper portion of this may be impassable due to rock slides. This is a good four-wheel drive road for fishing and wilderness access.

Directions from Almont: Travel 32 miles northeast of Taylor River Road (#742) to Tellurium Road, which leads north.

Dorchester Campground - Dorchester Campground is popular with off-road vehicle users. A lengthy network of motorized trails leads from the Castle Creek Valley to Taylor Reservoir.

Pot Hole Lakes - Pot Hole lakes lie close to 10,000 feet on the Taylor River north of Taylor Reservoir. They are heavily stocked due to easy accessibility.

Ptarmigan Lake - This lake, located above 12,000 feet, offers rainbow trout and good fishing.

Taylor River Road - The Taylor River Road is a paved, narrow, winding road, that follows the Taylor River through Taylor Canyon. Traffic is usually very heavy in the summer months.

Tellurium Creek - The upper stretches of Tellurium Creek contain brook trout and a few brown trout inhabit the lower stretches. The fishing is rated as fair.
