Quick Facts

Lost Lake, Lost Lake Slough and Dollar Lake

Satellite and Topo Map

General Description

These lakes lie between East Beckwith Mountain and Lost Lake Campground.

Due to the high elevation and snow pack, access to them is not clear until the first or middle of June. These lakes offer the fisherman some good fishing and beautiful scenery. Trail #546 takes the recreationist to Lost Lake and Dollar Lake. This is a loop trail that begins at the northwest end of Lost Lake Slough, travels to Lost Lake , then to Dollar lake, and back to the northeast side of Lost Lake Slough.

Lost Lake Slough is a man-made lake. It is drained by the end of fall, so the fish do not have much of a chance to reach any size. However, Brook trout up to twenty one inches can be caught out of Lost Lake and Dollar Lake, with the average size running between eight to ten inches. The catch is fairly evenly divided between bait, spinners and fly fishing. In July, the fisherman has the best chance of catching a nice size fish by using a spinner or fly.

If the fishing is slow, there are many good Forest Service Trails on the area that the recreationist can hike.

Directions from Paonia: Travel Highway 133 east to Kebler Pass Road. Take Kebler Pass Road to FS Road #706 then up #706 to Lost Lake Campground. At the campground, Trail #546 makes a loop by Lost Lake and Dollar Lake and back to the campground.
