There are three trails leading to Sheep Lake. Sheep Lake Trail #551.1 and Sheep Lake Spur Trail #551.2 are very steep. The trail coming from the Soap Creek Trail, at the wilderness access, is a much milder grade. No camping or riding and pack stock are allowed within the Sheep Lake Closure. This closure is posted at the Wilderness Boundary. Sheep Lake has received a lot of misuse in the past. The reason for the closure is to help repair the resource damage that has been done. So please cooperate in this closure. Fishing can be either very good or poor at Sheep Lake. Brook trout up to eighteen and twenty inches can possibly be caught. The best time to fish is June and the first part of July. Later on in the summer, the large fish are very difficult to catch. This area is very beautiful and well worth the effort to see.
Directions from Coal Creek Road: Take Coal Creek Road #709 to Soap Creek Trail #443 until you come to the junction with Castle Creek Trail and Sheep Lake Trail #551.1. Trail #551.1 will take you to Sheep Lake.
