General Description

The area surrounding Pitkin Campground is popular for four-wheel driving in the Summer and Fall months. Many four-wheel drive, high-clearance roads exist in this mountainous region. The area north and east of Pitkin was part of the mineral belt that extends into Leadville. Many of the four-wheel drive roads were created by miners over 100 years ago. Pitkin campground is also used as a winter trailhead for snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and snowshoers.

Directions from Parlin: From Parlin on Highway 50 turn northeast on to State Road 76. Travel several miles, at least 10, to the mining village of Ohio. When you reach Ohio continue traveling east on State Road 76 for 6.5 more miles. At this point the road changes to dirt and is known as Cumberland Pass Road or Forest Road 765. Travel approximately 2 more miles on 765 to Pitkin Campground.
