Canon Hondo Trail, 595, lies within the La Garita Wilderness and can be accessed from the Eddiesville Trailhead. It follows a small drainage named Canon Hondo that exists between Stewart Creek and Cochetopa Creek. To reach Canon Hondo, hike one quarter mile south on the Skyline/Colorado Trail, 465, to the trail intersection. Trail 595 will lead to the following a small creek. The trail is only maintained for about two miles from Skyline Trail. Wildlife can often be seen from the top of the canyon.
Directions from Gunnison: Access Via Forest Service Road 794: Take Highway 50 east to Colorado State Highway 114. Drive through Cochetopa Canyon and then turn right on the access road to Dome Lakes and the Old Agency Work Center (BLM Route 3083, NN 14 Road). Continue past Upper and Lower Dome Reserviors to BLM Route 3086 (15-GG Road). Turn right on BLM 3086 and follow it approximately four miles to the Stewart Creek Road sign and Forest Service Road 794. Follow 794 17 miles to the Eddiesville Trailhead. Hike the Skyline Trail approximately 1/4 mile to the Canon Hondo Trail.
