Cebolla Trail, 459, leads east/west through the La Garita Wilderness and into the Cochetopa region. The trail begins on Forest Road 729 at the Skyline Trailhead, which lies at 10,300 feet. The trail leads east climbing steadily for two miles before turning northward into the Martinez Creek drainage. The path descends to 10,300 feet before crossing Rough Creek Trail, 463, five miles beyond Skyline Trailhead. Cebolla Trail leaves Rough Creek Trail leading in a southeasterly direction. It reaches a high point of 11,400 feet before descending into the Mineral Creek drainage. Nine miles from the trailhead, Cebolla Trail intersects Mineral Creek Trail, 466. The Cebolla Trail crosses Mineral Creek then leads eastward out of the valley. Leaving Mineral Creek Trail 459 ascends to a height of 11,900 feet as it leads northeast toward Mineral Mountain. Within a mile of Mineral Mountain the trail makes a sharp southward turn and begins to descend into the next drainage. Five miles from Mineral Creek, Cebolla Trail intersects Forest Road 592 and Spring Creek. The elevation of this crossing is approximately 10,300 feet. Ascending from Spring Creek, Cebolla Trail parallels Sheep Creek for two miles. After leaving the creek, the trail ascends the ridge that contains Baldy Chato (13,401), Stewart Peak (13,983) and Baldy Alto (13,698). Immediately east of this ridge Cebolla Trail ends at Forest Road 790 and 12,000 feet.
Directions from Lake City: Take Colorado Highway 149 south toward Creede. Travel about 16 miles, to a sign on the left which marks the Quiet Valley Ranch Road and the Skyline Trail, 465. Turn left and follow Forest Road 729 about two miles to the Skyline Trail access sign. Skyline and Cebolla Trails begin from the same trailhead.
Directions from Lake City: Use the same access from Lake City to Skyline Trail # 465 (Tumble Creek Access):Take Colorado Highway 149 south toward Creede. Travel about sixteen miles, until there is a sign on the left which marks the Quiet Valley Ranch Road and the Skyline Trail. Turn left and follow Road 729 about two miles to the Skyline Trail access sign.
