This trail follows the Cochetopa Creek upstream to the base of San Luis Peak. It then continues up to the Continental Divide and San Luis Pass. The trail follows the Divide to the base of Baldy Cinco and then goes down the Tumble Creek drainage. The trail follows Cochetopa Creek downstream 6 miles to a dead-end at private land.Herds of deer and elk are usually visible at various places along the trail. Fishing is often good along the streams. High alpine tundra and talus slopes are the prevalent land forms. The trail runs along at a high altitude, never dropping below 10,000 feet, so be prepared physically.
Directions from Gunnison to the Eddiesville Trailhead: Take Hwy 50 east to Hwy 114. Go thru Cochetopa Canyon and then turn right on the access road to Dome Lakes and the Old Agency Work Center. After about 4 miles, turn right to go to the Old Agency Work Center and Forest Service Road #790 or go a few miles more and turn right just after Upper Dome Reservoir to get on Forest Service Road #794. Take the Stewart Creek Road about 5 miles until you see the sign for the Stewart Creek Trail.
Directions from Lake City to Tumble Creek Access: Take 149 south toward Creede for about 16 miles. Turn left at the sign on the left side of the road which marks the Quiet Valley Ranch road and the Skyline Trail. Follow road #729 about 2 miles to the Skyline Trail access sign.
