Crystal Lake can be accessed from the Crystal Lake Trail, 235. The lake lies at approximately 12,080 feet at the head of Crystal Creek. The hike to Crystal Lake is difficult, gaining over 3,000 vertical feet in four miles. Fishing for brook and rainbow trout, in Crystal Lake, varies from fair to good.
Directions from Lake City: Drive north on Highway 149 toward Gunnison. About one half mile past the town limits, turn left, toward the old Lake City IOOF Cemetery, on to Balsam Drive. Follow this road and turn right just in front of the cemetery entrance and park here. The trailhead is approximately one half mile past the cemetery, so continue walking on Balsam Drive to reach it. Crystal Lake is four miles from the trailhead.
