To access Mill Lake begin hiking at Gold Creek Trailhead. Follow Trail 478, Fossil Ridge Trail, one half mile west to the beginning of Mill Lake Trail, 532. The Mill Lake Trail is two miles long and considered an easy day hike. Mill Lake lies at the head of Mill Creek. The elevation of Mill Lake is approximately 11,720 feet. Fishing success can vary daily and even hourly in most high alpine lakes. Only cutthroat trout are known to be in this lake and specimens to eighteen inches have been caught. The average size is around eleven inches.
Directions from Gunnison: Drive east on Highway 50 to Parlin. Turn left at Parlin and go about eight miles to Ohio City. Turn left in Ohio City towards Comanche and Gold Creek Campground. The trailhead is located across the main road from the Gold Creek Campground. The Mill Creek Trail splits from Trail 478 about one-half mile from Gold Creek Campground. Take this to Mill Lake.
