Bear River and East Fork Trail, near the Stillwater Trailhead

The Bear River Trail begins at Stillwater Reservoir, southwest of Yampa. It leads from the Stillwater Trailhead, along the north shore of Stillwater Reservoir and follows the Bear River drainage to its headwaters. The trail passes Mosquito Lake and climbs to a divide at 11,400 feet which separates the Bear and White River drainages, at the boundary of the White River National Forest. The trail is called the Stillwater Trail on the White River National Forest. Travelers may continue to Trappers Lake using the Stillwater Trail #1814, or to Lost Lakes Peaks using Trail #1803, or to Mackinaw Lake using Trail #1817. Trails 1803 and 1817 both remain relatively level while crossing the alpine tundra. LEAVE NO TRACE As humans, we must minimize our impacts to help preserve this resource for present and future generations.
Directions from Yampa: Travel S/SW on County Road 7 for approximately 7 miles to FDR 900. Follow FDR 900 approximately 8 1/2 more miles to the trailhead at Stillwater Reservoir. Both the East Fork Trail #1119 and the Bear River Trail #1120 are common for the first 0.8 mile.
