General Description

Access from Stunner Pass via Forest Road 256. The road is rough and steep in places and shouldn't be attempted without a 4 WD. 85% of the lake shore is rated is rated easy to fish. Scenic lake - excellent fishing. Flies and lures only.

Kerr Lake is one of the few boating areas with road access int the Conejos District. Motors are not allowed on this lake.

Directions from Stunner Pass: Via Forest Road 256. The road is rough and steep in places and should not be attempted without a 4WD.

The fishing is wonderful and so is the view. This lake is off the beaten path but well worth the trip. My family and I have been up here every summer for the past 10 years. It takes about 30 minutes to get up to the lake. Conditions: In July you might still find a little snow in spots. You are pretty close to tree line. Recommended Clothing: A jacket and long pants. Suggested Accessories: We brought our camp cook stove and had lunch while we were there. Number of People Encountered: 0-10 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: This was well worth the long and slow drive up Kerr Lake Road. The silence and solitude up there is just what we were looking for and words can't describe the beauty of the land.

Cliff Lake - This as a picturesque lake with scenic views but it is subject to winterkill in extreme years.

Conejos River Road - FR 250 Scenic Drive - Forest Road 250 is a graded dirt road that follows the Conejos River from Highway 17 to Platoro, crosses Stunner Pass, and then descends to the San Luis Valley along the Alamosa River.

Kerr Lake Road - The Kerr Lake Road heads north from the summit of Stunner Pass.

Mix Lake - 90% of the shoreline is rated easy to fish. Due to its proximity to the Platoro and Mix Lake Campground, this lake is heavily fished. It is stocked regularly with rainbow trout.

Mix Lake Campground - Mix Lake Campground is located one mile west of Platoro in the Conejos River drainage. Many bodies of water provide fishing and there is access to the South San Juan Wilderness nearby.

Mix Lake Day Use Area - Heavily fished, stocked lake.

Platoro Reservoir - Platoro Reservoir lies a short distance west of the tourist-mining village Platoro. The lake is 990 acres, the highest man-made lake in North America.
