The Timber Lake Trail passes through the subalpine forest covering the plateau between Canon Rincon and Hansen Creek. The plateau is dotted by several smaller lakes and ponds, and small subalpine meadows. From the Timber Lake Trail one is afforded striking views into the depths of Canon Rincon. The area is well used by elk, and visitors have the opportunity to see elk, or signs of them. Other wildlife species including coyote, small mammals, and numerous species of birds, all abundant in the area.As one approaches Timber Lake, the plateau narrows and one can look down into Canon Rincon to the west and Hansen Creek to the east. Timber Lake is surrounded by gentle slopes that were burned many years ago. The stumps of the burned trees create a ghostly atmosphere that is contrasted by the vigorous growth re-vegetating the slopes.
Directions from Canon Rincon Trail: Follow the Canon Rincon Trail #722 from its intersection with either the South Fork Conejos Trail #724 or the Conejos Trail #720. At a point one-half mile south of Twin Lakes, the Timber Lake Trail will head southeast to Timber Lake.
