This trail, called Old Dry Creek Stock Driveway, is still used to drive livestock to the high country. Most stockmen prefer to use the other access points that are more newly developed. Now this trail is used for many recreational activities. The trail starts in the low country and climbs steadily towards Bennett Mountain (13,203 feet in elevation). The views are incredible and other trails and roads connect, which give enthusiasts many opportunities to make a loop trip.
Directions from Monte Vista: Drive south for 2 miles on Highway 15 from Monte Vista. Turn right onto County Road 2 south. The old dirt road heads west at this intersection. Continue for another 3.5 miles, turn right at the fork and go another 3 miles. At the intersection along Dry Creek, take a right and drive 4 miles to the end of the 4WD road where the trail starts.
