General Description

All sizes of rainbow, brown, brook and native cutthroat trout as well as kokanee salmon tempt the fisherman. There is a paved boat ramp at the south end and the reservoir is suitable for rafts to small motor boats. There is ample parking and toilets. The reservoir is lowered for irrigation in late summer. This is a good place for ice fishing in the winter. Access is by car, but chains or a 4 WD vehicle is recommended in the winter even though the road is plowed. Cross Creek Campground is located next to the reservoir.

Directions from South Fork: Travel 1.0 mile west on U.S. Highway 160. Turn left on the Beaver Creek Forest Access Road #360 and go 7.0 miles south.

Cross Creek Campground - Cross Creek Campground is in the Beaver Creek drainage southwest of the town of South Fork. Beaver Creek and Beaver Reservoir have fishing. Cross Creek Trail # 512 has the biggest Douglas fir tree in the Rio Grande National Forest.
