General Description

From Alamosa, go north 1.5 miles on Forest Service Road # 950 to the campground entrance. North Crestone Campground is in the narrow valley of North Crestone Creek at the base of Sangre de Cristo Range. There is fishing in North Crestone Creek and hiking on North Crestone Creek Trail (Forest Trail 744). There are 13 campsites with tables and fireplaces, vault type toilets and developed drinking water with hand pumps.

Directions from Alamosa, Colorado: Travel north 37.0 miles on Colorado Highway 17 to Moffat, then 12.0 miles east to Crestone. Then, go north 1.5 miles on Forest Service Road # 950 to the campground entrance.

Directions from Crestone, Colorado: Travel 1.5 miles north on Forest Road # 950 to campground entrance.

Seasonal Information:
Normal Services Available: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend (NOTE: From 9/11 to 11/30 reduced services. No Garbage Collection and no fee. Open during hunting season or until snow closes road access to campground.) .

Related Activities

Major Creek Trail - Trail attractions are 6"-8" brookies and cutthroat trout in the lower section of the creek. No mountain lake is reached unless the divide is crossed to Brush Creek Lakes.

North Crestone Creek Trail - The trail offers excellent possibilities for extended backpacking or just a good day hike from the campground. Attractions are fishing the creek and lake, excellent scenery, waterfalls and opportunity to see bighorn sheep and occasionally bear.
