Crestone Needles

The trail offers the opportunity for a long day trip or an extended trip. Recent trail reconstruction has improved the trail to enable horses to get within 300 yards of the Lake. Attractions are fishing in the creek and lake, Willow Falls, diverse wildlife, access for climbers to Crestone Needles and Crestone Peak, and excellent views toward the San Luis Valley.
Directions from Moffat, Colorado: Take Highway 17 to Moffat. Turn east on the Crestone Road and follow it to Crestone. Turn east at the Post Office and follow the gravel road 1 1/2 miles. 2 WD vehicles can park here; 4 WD's can go another 3/4 mile up the road to the registration box. South Crestone Trail #860 is straight ahead, Willow Lake Trail leaves to the right and crosses the creek. The trail is closed to motorized traffic.
