Once over and down the ridge west of the parking lot, the trail becomes fairly level as it parallels and crisscrosses the North Fork of the Big Thompson River. Bridges are available for each river crossing.
Deserted Village is 3 miles from the trailhead. Once an active hunting camp with several buildings, now there remains only one log structure in this large meadow.
This trail offers the opportunity to travel into Rocky Mountain National Park. It links to the Stormy Peaks Trail (see North Fork-Stormy Peaks Trail). The Park boundary is 4.5 miles from the trailhead. Make sure when planning a trip into Rocky Mountain National Park that you first check with Park Headquarters for camping, fishing, and fire regulations.
Directions from Estes Park: Travel east on the Devils Gulch road about 9.5 miles to the "Forest Access-Parking area 2.25 miles" sign. Turn north onto the Dunraven Glade road and at the end of this road there will be a large parking area.
Directions from Loveland: Travel west on Hwy 34 to Drake. Take the Devils Gulch road towards Glen Haven for 6 miles. At that point there will be a Forest Access sign directing you onto the Dunraven Glade Road. At the end of this road there will be a large parking area.
