General Description

This trail begins south of Georgetown, near Guanella Pass. It offers a scenic hike to two small alpine lakes. Fishing is available in both lakes. The first lake, Naylor Lake, is a private lake. Please respect private property.

This is a fairly easy, short hike that is steep in a couple of places. Since both lakes are above timberline, it is easy to hike to the surrounding peaks and lakes such as Square Top Mountain and Murray Lake. Square Top Mountain offers a nice view over the Continental Divide.

Directions from Georgetown: From the Georgetown I-70 exit, #228, follow the signs for Guanella Pass through Georgetown. On the first dirt road past Guanella Pass Campground (9 miles) turn right. (At this point if you do not have a 4 wheel-drive vehicle, please park your car here) Go up this dirt road about 1/4 mile to the trailhead.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Accessible: Summer through Fall .

Report: 8/22/01: a very nice half day hike. The trail starts out steep through the trees , but moderates once it rises above Lake Naylor. Can be wet in spots (get muddy-save the trail!). Murray Lake (above Silver Dollar) is worth the short steep climb up. Have seen goats there.

Report: This is a great morning hike that offers some brilliant views and a nice variety of scenery. The hike starts a little below timber line, and shortly climbs above the trees. As you climb you look down on a private lake where we saw a boater floating along peacefully in his conoe. We also had a nice variety of wild flowers and viewed some mountain goats grazing high on the side of one of the peaks. Because of weather and timberline, it is advisable to do this one in the morning (maybe even have an early breakfast in Georgetown as my mother and I did).
