The trail that uses the Bear Lake Trailhead is the Colorado Trail in segment 9, Tennessee Pass to Turquoise Lake. From this landmark the Colorado Trail leads southwest toward the Timberline Lake Trailhead. The Colorado Trail passes close to Bear Lake and by Galena Lake on its way to Timberline Lake Trailhead. The mileage between the 2 trailheads is approximately 4 miles. Bear Lake Road ends at the Bear Lake Trailhead.
Directions from Leadville: From the traffic light on Harrison Avenue drive north to Lake County Road 38 (Mountain View Drive). Make a left on to 38 and drive until you reach a "T" in the road. Turn right at the "T". Follow this road until you reach a large parking area. Turn left here and cross a set of railroad tracks. This road will bring you to Turquoise Lake Road (County Road 9). Turn right on to 9 and follow approximately 3 miles to Bear Lake Road (Forest Road 107). Travel on Bear Lake Road to the trailhead, which is 2.25 miles.
