Frenchman Creek Trail (#1457) extends from Frenchman Creek Road (Forest Road 386) in the southern section of the Leadville Ranger District. The road ends at the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness boundary. Frenchman Creek Trail is approximately 3.5 miles one way. It intersects with the Colorado Trail at about mile 1, and connects with the South Pine Creek Trail at about mile 2.5. Frenchman Creek Trail climbs almost 2,000' in 3.5 miles.
Directions from Buena Vista: From Buena Vista drive 6 miles north on Highway 24. Look for State Road 386 on the left side of the road. This is Frenchman Creek Road turn left. Drive approximately 1.5 miles to a fork in the road. Take the left fork, which is Frenchman Creek Road now Forest Road 386. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is recommended for this road. Continue on this road for 2.5 miles to the road closure and the Collegiate Wilderness boundary. The trail begins at the road closure.
