Colorado Trail (Twin Lakes to Clear Creek Rd.)

Directions from Leadville: Northern Access: From Leadville travel south on US Hwy 24 to the junction of Colorado Highway 82. Travel west approximately 4 miles to Lake County Road 24. Turn right (north) on Lake County 24 and follow it approximately 1.1 miles to the scenic parking area just north of Lakeview Campground. The South Elbert Trail will follow the Colorado Trail (signs) heading north for 2.3 miles at which point the South Elbert Trail branches to the left (west ) climbing more steeply. The first 1.8 miles of trail can be traveled with a 4WD starting on Forest Road 125.1B just north of the parking area described above.

Directions from Highway 24: Southern Access: Clear Creek Road is about 19 miles south of Leadville or 14 miles north of Buena Vista, Colorado. Forest Road #120 is graveled and sometimes rough but satisfactory for most vehicles.

Clear Creek General Forest Area - Clear Creek offers unique recreation opportunities and history. Clear Creek Reservoir has public fishing, boating and camping accesses.

Colorado Trail (Halfmoon to Twin Lakes) - This segment of the Colorado Trail begins in the Halfmoon Drainage and continues for approximately 6 miles to the Lakeview Campground above Twin Lakes.

Colorado Trail (Turquoise Lake to Halfmoon Creek) - This section of the Colorado Trail is known as #10. It begins west of Turquoise Lake and ends 11.5 miles later in the Halfmoon Creek drainage.

ColoradoTrail (Tennessee Pass to Turquoise Lake) - This segment of the Colorado Trail leads users through lodgepole, spruce-fir and aspen forests. It consists of moderately difficult terrain.

Hope Pass Trail - Hope Pass is also the Colorado Trail that leads to Clear Creek Road. There is about 3,200 feet elevation gain up to 12,500 feet at the pass.

Interlaken Interpretive Site - This trail offers an easy walk to the historic resort cabins of Interlaken. Hikers and history buffs can visit the historic Interlaken by following the Colorado Trail along the south side of the lake.

Twin Lakes Historic Park - Interpretive panels and historic structures await those interested in the history of the west at this rest area. The surrounding terrain provides endless recreation opportunities.

Willis Gulch Trail - This is a moderate hike with an elevation gain of 2,400 feet. The end destination is Willis Lake and a mine just beyond the lake .
