The section of the road which can be driven with a 4 WD begins 4.5 miles north of Leadville on Colorado 91 and ends on a hiking trail about 1/4 mile before the lake. The first part of this road crosses private land. Please stay on the roadway and be respectful of private property.
Directions from Leadville: Drive north on Highway 91 from Leadville. Approximately 4 1/2 miles from town turn left on to Buckeye Gulch Road. Travel one mile to the road closure where you will find the beginning of the trail.
