Cascade Campground

The Cascade Campground has 23 sites and can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet. Services at the campground include drinking water, vault toilets, tables, fire grates and trash dumpsters. Recycling of aluminum cans is encouraged. No trailer hookups are provided by the concessionaire. The campground is wooded with Ponderosa pine, Douglas fir and aspen trees. Sites 19 - 22 have larger parking area and are level sites ideal for tent camping and RV camping. Sites 13 - 18 are smaller sites located on a slope. Site 9 is small and very rocky.The Chalk Creek Canyon is distinctive for the white chalk cliffs that mark the entrance to the canyon. Mt. Princeton (14,197') is located on the northern side of the canyon and Mt. Antero (14, 269') can be seen on the southern side of the canyon. The historic town of St. Elmo is located approximately 15 miles up the canyon. Fishing is available in the lower portion of the canyon at Chalk Lake, Wright's Lake and along Chalk Creek. High elevation lakes include Baldwin, Pomeroy, Grizzly and Hancock. These lakes are accessible by foot or four-wheel drive. Hiking accessible from Cascade Campground include Agnes Vaille Falls Trail, Colorado Trail, Poplar Gulch Trail, Mt. Princeton Trail and Mt. Antero Trail. The four-wheel drive roads easily accessible from Cascade Campground include Tincup Pass, Hancock Pass, Baldwin Gulch and Mt. Antero.
Directions from Buena Vista: Drive approximately 15 miles south of Buena Vista on Highway 285. Turn right on to County Road 162 and travel 9.6 miles to Cascade Family Campground. County Road 162 is paved for 8 miles before the campground.

Chalk Lake - Chalk Lake is located in the Chalk Creek drainage on County Road 162 southwest of Buena Vista. Four campground are located within close proximity of the lake.
Iron City Campground - The Iron City Campground is located in the Chalk Creek drainage near the well-preserved mining town of St. Elmo. This area offers many attractions for outdoor enthusiasts such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and four-wheel driving.
Mt.princeton Campground - Mt. Princeton Campground is partially wooded with Ponderosa pine, aspen and cedar trees. The campground has 17 sites.
Poplar Gulch Trail - The Poplar Gulch Trail leads north miles from St. Elmo to South Cottonwood Creek. It traverses 2 scenic valleys and over a high saddle for views of the Sawatch Mountain Range.
