Other remnants of the mining economy lie within the valleys and mountains of the local terrain. The Alpine Tunnel is located on County Road 295, south of St. Elmo, and accessible by trail. Fishing in Chalk Creek and Chalk Lake and various alpine lakes in the area are accessible by foot or four-wheel drive. Hiking trails in the area include the Agnes Vaille Falls Trail, Colorado Trail, Poplar Gulch Trail, Mt. Princeton Trail and Mt. Antero Trail. Several four-wheel drive roads area accessible from this drainage. They include Tincup Pass, Hancock Pass, Baldwin Gulch and Mt. Antero.

Report: I visited the campground in the Spring and there was nobody there. It is very secluded and quiet, but I noticed very little water in the creek. Of course, it's been a very dry year. Interestingly, I discovered that there is a small, old cemetery next to the campground, in an Aspen grove.

Report: Iron City is further away from the busier campgrounds, making it much quieter. Better tent camping, and sites aren't on top of each other, so you're not listening to your neighbor. St. Elmo is a great place to visit, and the 4-wheel trail up to Tincup Pass is beautiful.
