Avalanche Trailhead is located 6 miles west of Buena Vista on Cottonwood Pass. It provides access to Segment 13 of the Colorado Trail that leads from North Cottonwood Creek to Chalk Creek. Overnight parking is permitted at this site. Two vault toilets are provided on site. Avalanche Trailhead lies immediately east of the winter closure gate on Cottonwood Pass. This makes a great starting point for winter activities on the pass.
Directions from Buena Vista: Drive 7 miles west on Cottonwood Pass (Highway 306).
