General Description

Angel of Shavano Trailhead is located 10 miles northwest of Poncha Springs. It serves as an access point for the Colorado Trail. The Angel of Shavano Campground is located across County Road 240 from the trailhead. Campers may use the trailhead for access to the Colorado Trail and the Mt. Shavano Trail.

Directions from Poncha Springs: Drive west on Highway 50 for 6 miles to County Road 240. Travel north on 240 for 4 miles to the trailhead.

Both options start out with long climbs that can be technically difficult in places, but offer the reward of excellent singletrack through pine and aspen groves. The trail to the north is probably technically easier and a quicker climb. Miles of jeep roads are also accessible from this trailhead by continuing to follow CR 240. Conditions: There will be snow in the winter. Water Availability: Water is available from numerous streams. Filtering or treating is recommended.

Angel Of Shavano Group Site - The Angel of Shavano Group Camp and Picnic Site is located within the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. This site has the capacity to house 100 people. Reservations are required.

Colorado Trail (Chalk Creek to Highway 50) - Segment 14 of the Colorado Trail extends 20 miles south from Chalk Creek Road to Highway 50 west of Maysville. This portion of the trail is open to foot, horse and bike traffic.
