Wye campground is located approximately 13 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. Gold Camp Road is the access road for this site. Gold Camp Road and parking surface is improved gravel. The campground has 21 camp sites and parking spaces for 21 vehicles. The campground elevation is 10,300 feet. Facilities include tables, fireplaces and vault-type toilets. Firewood, shelter, garbage dumpsters and water are not provided. The recreation-use season is from mid-May to mid-October.The weather is generally mild with warm days and cool nights. Summertime highs are around 80 degrees with the nighttime lows around 45 degrees. Afternoon thunderstorms are a common occurrence. The spring and fall weather is usually dry and sunny with highs around 70 degrees and the lows around 30 degrees. About one and a half miles west of the campground is Penrose/Rosemont Reservoir, which is operated by the City of Colorado Springs. Also depending upon the time of day and year various forms of wildlife may be observed.
Directions from Colorado Springs: From Colorado Springs, take either 21st Street and Cresta or Lake to the Broadmoor. Following the signs to the zoo on El Pomar and Penrose, the road will fork. The left fork will go to the zoo, and the right fork is Old Stage Road. Turn right and travel Old Stage Road; it will tie into Gold Camp Road. Total distance is approximately 12 miles. Stay on Gold Camp Road for about 5 miles, then turn right on FDR 381 for one-half mile. The campground will be on the left-hand side of the road.
