General Description

Painted Rocks Campground is located in the Manitou Park Recreation Area north of Woodland Park. It has 18 camp sites to accommodate campers at least 30 feet long. The elevation for the site is 7,800 feet. The camping season begins in May and continues through September. The user fee for Painted Rocks is $10.00 per night per site. All areas have tables, fire grates, potable water, vault toilets and garbage collection.

Many of the visitors to these campgrounds use them as a base from
which they visit the many attractions in the area which range from Pikes
Peak to the Air Force Academy to the Garden of the Gods. Manitou Lake is a 34-acre reservoir where the entire family can enjoy fishing and hiking. Motorboats and swimming are not permitted, because of the easy access to this area and its popularity. Fishing occurs year-round in the reservoir along with Trout Creek for those who prefer stream fishing. An asphalt-surfaced bicycle trail #699, approximately 4.2 miles long connects all of the campgrounds and the picnic ground; an enjoyable event for kids of all ages.

RV dump station located at Pike Community Group Area has both potable and non-potable water. It may be closed down after Labor Day. Painted Rocks campground closes by the end of September. South Meadows and Manitou Lake are open year-round. This area gets heavy use during spring, summer, and fall; light use during winter.

Report: This was the first time we went to Painted Rock. The kids loved the fact there were tons of very kewl Red Rocks to climb on an hike to. Directions to Painted Rock were very easy. There were signs "Beware of Mountain Lions" But we did not encounter any Thank GOD!
Conditions: The weather was awfully windy. We tried 3 times to go fishing at the near by "pond?" Manitou Lake Laughs!! Every time we got there (10 minute walk from camp) The wind kicked up very hard ( making it impossible to even cast a lour!) then began sideways raining due to the awful winds. Thats frustrating but thats Colorado weather for ya. While we were at camp the wind wasn't so fierce but it did drop to under 20 at night(BRRR COLD)We woke up to out water frozen an the faucet was frozen as well. That sucked! We did go to bed a bit early 930pm, there were campers pulling in it seemed like all night. Their were sever campers with dogs that couldn't seem to stop barking either! Over all we all had a good time there.
