The Barr Trailhead in Manitou serves the Pikes Peak summit trail as well as an entire network of trails on Pikes Peak. The elevation for this trailhead is 6,720'. It is sometimes called the Ruxton Trailhead, because it it located on Ruxton Avenue in Manitou Springs.

When hiking the Barr Trail be sure to get an early start. The first two miles are exposed and steep.
The Barr Trail, named after its builder, Fred Barr was constructed
during the years 1914 to 1921. The trail climbs 13 miles from the Trailhead (6,720') in Manitou Springs, to the summit of Pikes Peak (14,110'). The elevation gain of the Barr Trail is the greatest in the state reaching 7,258'.
Directions from Manitou Springs: From downtown Manitou turn west on to Ruxton Avenue and drive 1 mile to the trailhead. The trailhead is immediately above the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad Depot.
