The Crags Trail, #664, from Crags Campground to "The Crags" is open to foot, horse and cross-country ski traffic. Motorized vehicles are prohibited. This trail is a beginners-level 1.5 mile trail with an elevation change of 700 feet. The trail leads to "The Crags", a group of rock pinnacle formations at the northwestern base of Pikes Peak. This is a good cross-country ski trail in winter and a good trail for family hikes during other seasons.Profile: 10,900 +"The Crags" 10,800 + 10,500 + 10,100 + Temperatures are about 15 degrees cooler than Colorado Springs. Afternoon thunderstorms are common throughout the summer. Camping is permitted at the Crags Campground for an $8 fee. Campfire permits are not required but please be sure your fire is dead out before you leave. Camping is permitted off the trail and outside the campground at least 300' from any trail or stream. Use no-impact camping techniques. Pack it in/ Pack it out rule applies. Respect other trail users.
Directions from Colorado Springs: From Colorado Springs, take Hwy 24, through Woodland Park, to Divide. Turn south on Hwy 67. Drive 4 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road #383. Approximately 2.5 miles down the road is the Crags Campground and trailhead. Parking is available at the east end of the campground, and this is where the trail begins.
