General Description

PENROSE TRAIL #665 is open to motorcycle, mountain bike, and foot
traffic. The trail leads from Forest Road 370 to Forest Road 380. The trail is moderately difficult and is open to motorcycles which use this trail frequently.

This is a heavily used trail, especially by mountain bikes and motorcycles. It winds in and out of cool pine forests and offers scenic vistas of Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and Gold Camp Road.

It is recommended that motorcycles use this trail in summer months only because of snow depth. Temperatures are similar to Colorado Springs. Afternoon thunderstorms are common throughout the summer.

Directions from Colorado Springs: From Colorado Springs, take 26th Street to Gold Camp Road. Approximately 2 miles up Gold Camp Road is the trailhead.

Two beautiful overlooks where you can pull off the trail. Very narrow in some parts and that can be an issue with all the mountain bikers, hikers, and other motorcycles on the trail. The later in the afternoon you ride the less traffic. Conditions: Trail was dry all the way up. One tricky, rocky incline. Water Availability: You don't cross any water. Drinking water is not an issue. Difficulty: Hard Number of People Encountered: 11-25 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Not Recommended Report: This trail is NOT for ATVs as indicated at the bottom of screen. Has to turn around (almost impossible) at about 1/4 mile up trail...way too narrow for ATVs! Difficulty: Easy Number of People Encountered: 0-10 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: The trail head is at least 5 or 6 miles from 26th st.
