General Description

Lost Park Campground & Trailhead are located approximately 20 miles southeast of the town of Jefferson, Colorado. This campground consists of 12 individual family campsites. Each campsites includes a table, fire grate and parking spur. Drinking water, garbage collection and vault toilets are located on site. The nearest public telephone is located in Jefferson, about 20 miles from the campground. The nearest fire and emergency services are also located in Jefferson.

This campground is adjacent to the Lost Park Wilderness. This 105,000 acre Wilderness has a wide variety of terrain and vegetation types, from steep rocky slopes to high mountain meadows and deep canyons. There are several trails leading out of the campground into the Wilderness.

Directions from Jefferson: Lost Park Campground & Trailhead are located approximately 20 miles southeast of the town of Jefferson, Colorado. Visitors may reach this area by taking State Highway 285 north out of Jefferson for one mile to County Road 56. Travel approximately 19 miles southeast on this road. This road dead-ends into the campground.

Odds are the first thing you will hear when you get out of your car is "MOO." There are multiple heards of cow near the campground, and along the Wigwam Trail into the Wilderness. The first 2 miles are the most interesting of the trail. We hiked in about 5 miles. Conditions: A lot of cow patties!!

Related Activities

Wigwam Trail - The Wigwam Trail provides a less-crowded alternative to the Goose Creek Trailhead. The trail accesses the east side of the Lost Creek Wilderness Area.
