General Description

Aspen Campground is located approximately 22 miles northeast of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. This campground consists of 12 family campsites. The campsites each have a table, fire grate, and parking spur. Drinking water, garbage collection and vault toilets are provided on site. The nearest public telephone is located in Jefferson about five miles from the campground. The nearest fire and emergency services are also located in Jefferson. This site is used most by anglers and hikers.

Directions from Fairplay: Aspen Campground is located approximately 22 miles northeast of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. Visitors may reach this campground by taking State Highway 285 north from Fairplay 17 miles to the town of Jefferson. Then drive west on County Road 35 for approximately 2 miles to Forest Developed Road (FDR) 37. Travel northwest on FDR 37 for approximately 3 miles to the campground.

Directions from Jefferson: Travel northwest 2.0 miles on County Road 35. Then continue traveling north 2.8 miles on County Road 37 to the campground.

I got there on Thurs. and stayed through Sat. night. This group of campgrounds DOES accept reservations so it was getting pretty full by Thursday even, so I would suggest making reservations. I had originally wanted to camp at the Jefferson Creek campground, but this was a good second choice. All of the campsites in this area were beautiful. They are fairly close together, so there can be limited privacy. I would highly suggest a 0 degree bag as the temp did get down to the mid 30's. There are some incredible trails within walking distance of this site and well worth the time to explore. The beaver ponds are beautiful as well. A word of caution though, the road to the campgrounds is very very washboard and bumpy, but manageable if you go slow. Conditions: During the mornings it was sunny and clear, but by afternoon all of the days I was there it would get cloudy and cold and rainy. Water Availability: There is a handpump at the entrance to the campground. The water is clear, and tastes amazing. Number of People Encountered: 25-50 ppl Recommend to a Friend: Highly Report: The sites in this campground are all good. Small campground so it shouldn't get wild and noisy.
