Horseshoe Campground is located approximately ten miles southwest of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. This campground consists of 19 individual family campsites. The campsites each include a table, fire grate, and parking spur. Drinking water, garbage collection and vault toilets are provided on site. The nearest public telephone is located in Fairplay, about ten miles from the campground. The nearest fire and emergency services are also located in Fairplay.The campground is skirted on the west and the north by high mountain peaks. There is fishing in nearby streams and beaver ponds. The area also offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, motorcycling and four-wheel driving opportunities. This site is located across Fourmile Creek from the old mining settlements of Horseshoe and East Leadville. From the late 1870s to the Panic of 1893, this area was involved in the silver boom. Visitors may enjoy the history of this area, fishing in Fourmile Creek or hiking on the Limber Grove Trail.
Directions from Fairplay: Horseshoe Campground is located approximately 10 miles southwest of the town of Fairplay, Colorado. Visitors may reach this site by taking State Highway 285 south from Fairplay for approximately 2 miles to County Road 18. Drive west on County Road 18. After approximately 2 miles this road becomes Forest Developed Road 182, at the Forest Boundary. From this point travel approximately another 6 miles and the campground will be on the left.
