The Lake Park Trail begins atop Hankins Pass (10,000') and climbs to Lake Park (11,120'). The trail continues to climb approximately 400 more feet from Lake Park; and then it begins to descend to meet the Brookside McCurdy Trail. The total length of the trail is 4 miles.
This is a high country route, offering several outstanding views. Lake Park is a high-elevation meadow surrounded by majestic rock formations and the snags of a ghost forest remain from the effects of a fire. This is a great area for viewing alpine columbine, a high-altitude miniature of the state flower. Water is available in the backcountry and the Twin Eagles and Gooseneck Trailheads and Spruce Grove Campground.
Directions from Lake George: Travel 1.2 miles northwest on US Highway 24, then turn right on County Hwy 77 and travel 13.4 miles northwest to trailhead and Twin Eagles Campground.
