General Description

The Buffalo Creek General Forest Area is located along Forest Developed Road 543 southwest of the town of Buffalo Creek. It provides easy access to the Lost Creek Wilderness located to the west. Recreation opportunities include, but are not limited to hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking and fishing. The area includes 3 family campgrounds, 1 group campground and a picnic area.

Directions from Denver: Take Highway 121 south to an intersection at South Platte. Turn right on to South Platte River Road (96). Follow the south fork of this road, which remains 96, to the town of Buffalo Creek. From Buffalo Creek travel southwest on Forest Road 543. The Buffalo Creek Area surrounds this road.

Buffalo Campground - Buffalo Campground has 41 camp sites for trailers under 20'. The campground facilities include drinking water, tables, vault pit toilets, and fire grills.

Green Mountain Campground - Green Mountain Campground has 6 campsites and is not recommended for trailers. Camping season begins in late May and continues through early September.

Kelsey Campground - The Kelsey Campground consist of 17 individual campsites. Each campsite includes a table, fire ring and parking spur. The facilities include a hand-pumped well and two vault toilets.

Meadows Group Site - Meadows Group Campground consists of two available camping areas. Camping areas are equipped with several tables, fire rings, and large parking areas.
