This trail primarily serves as access to Bear Creek. The trail meets Bear Creek Trail 607 at the bottom of Bear Creek. At this intersection the hiker may continue downstream to the mouth of Bear Creek or go upstream to the Highline Loop National Recreation Trail or Sharkstooth Trail 622.The Gold Run Trail goes down a tributary side canyon into Bear Creek. The trail passes through stands of aspen and spruce. An open park provides vistas of a small portion of the Bear Creek Drainage. A large rock slide, about midway down the trail, can occasionally block the trail to horse traffic.
Directions from Mancos, Colorado: From Mancos, travel north 1.0 mile on County Road 184 . Turn right on County Road 42 (Jackson Gulch Reservoir sign) for 6 miles. You will be on Forest Road 561, drive 20 miles northeast on this road to get to the trailhead.
