This is one of the many accesses to the Calico Trail. The longer length means a somewhat less steep climb than found on the Section House Trail. The last mile is also the portion where one could lose the trail (at least until it is better maintained--currently, bright orange flagging marks this portion of the trail). As with most of the Calico Trail, there are spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys once you reach the intersection.
Directions from Dolores, Colorado: Proceed north on Colorado State Hwy 145 and continue past Priest Gulch Campground approximately 4.0 miles. The trailhead is posted and takes off north from a right-of-way through private property--be sure to securely close the gates you pass through and stay on the trail.
