Report: If you are looking to get away from it all-this is the place. We were in Durango before going to this campground and spoke to several locals who had never heard of it! It is a drive to get there, but it is soooo worth it. Go past Lemon reservoir, take a spin through the Florida Campground and then go on to Transfer Park. It is next to the beautiful Florida River and it feels so secluded! If you walk through the open meadow, there is a flat spot to, bravely, stupidly, go for a dip in the frigid water(this is fun if you are 2, 5 or 7, like my children, or 40 like my husband!) We took the hiking trail that runs from the campground and ran into a young guy and his horses who were taking supplies to the mountains for the guy tending the sheep! He told us about the government hired hunter who had killed a bear the day before just over the ridge. It was interesting talking to someone who had lived in this beauty his entire life! It is quite a drive to get to town, so bring all supplies. We still did the Durango stuff-train, shopping, etc, but it was fun to be able to come back to this place!
