General Description

Florida Campground is four miles north of Miller Creek above the reservoir. Colorado blue spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen dominate the area. This is a low use campground. Tent campers can finds some well-shaded spots near the river. Private property adjoins the campground on the south side.

Directions from Bayfield, Colorado: Travel 9.0 miles north on County Road #501, then 3.0 miles northwest on County Road #240, and finally 6.0 miles north on County Road #243 to campground entrance.

Seasonal Information:
Normal Services Available: Late May through Labor Day Weekend (NOTE: Starting Sept. 5th campground host are no longer on duty and camping fees are deposited in fee tubes.Toilets will remain open. If sites have water and trash service they are full price. Otherwise they are half price.) .

Report: Excellent 10 days/ so sad to see the lake down so low/ mabye someday it will come back up/ camp host very cordial/ will go back again soon.
Conditions: Nice showers half the time and nice and cool temp

Report: Beautiful spring camping trip. Grasses green, flowers blooming trees healthy, creeks gurggling and river roaring. Enjoyed very much. My first spring experience at Florida was excellent.
Conditions: Weather was perfect, 40's at night and 60's during the day with just a few showers.
Water Availability: Plenty of water on site.

Report: Enjoyed once again. Was sure glad the campground wasn't burned up as the news media reported. Sad to see the lake down so low.

Report: Whew!!! those bathrooms sure were strong (ammonia). We have been going up to Florida for over 20 years regular and always find it enjoyable. After rain showers for 10 of the 12 days it still was fun. Can't wait till next time.

Report: We really enjoyed our stay (F,S,S).Weather was cool the whole time. Light showers. Love the mountains and trees. We will be back as soon as we can. Wish there was water and electricity hook-ups. Toilets had too, too much amonia. Several campers complained of burning eyes and throats, including several children. That was worrisome. We carried spray room deoderizer and that seemed to help in the toilets for a couple of minutes.

Related Activities

Florida Group Site - Florida Group Campground, which is just beyond the regular camping area, can be reserved through the reservation center by large groups. The campground accommodates up to 65 people, with six double picnic tables, a buffet table, and four fire grates.

Lost Lake Trail (Columbine Ranger District) - The trail goes through aspen and fir forests to Lost Lake. Lost Lake is a small, shallow, very scenic lake which is not stocked with fish.
